Kathmandu, Dec. 29: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has turned a deaf ear to the demand of the rival faction led by senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel.
Paudel and his supporters in the party demanded that the ‘unilateral decisions’ taken by the NC Central Working Committee meeting should be withdrawn. The CWC meeting, which was boycotted by Paudel and his supporters, had on Friday taken several decisions annoying the Paudel faction.
The NC CWC meeting on Friday had decided to extend the tenure of the Deuba-led CWC by one year after announcing the calendar of the 14th general convention, and to form 47 departments in the place of statute-guaranteed 28.
The decisions were against the party statute because the statute has provisioned that the CWC has a tenure of four years while there are only 28 departments in the party.
The Paudel team objected to the unilaterally taken decisions on the basis of CWC majority and demanded that the Deuba led establishment side should withdraw them or they would run parallel activities in the party.
Deuba had not responded to the Paudel-led team’s demand till Sunday.
Paudel aide, CWC member Hirdaya Ram Thani, said that his team did not receive any response from the party president.
‘If Deuba does not listen to us, we will move ahead by piling pressures on him,” he said.
After making an assessment that the Deuba faction is getting weaker in the party, Paudel team had launched its campaign against the party president by targeting the 14th general convention. Paudel and his team also claimed that they were the real establishment of the party, not the Deuba-led faction.
Deuba’s team did not react to the claim of the Paudel-led faction. When The Rising Nepal tried get information on the issue with NC spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma, he could not be contacted even after several telephone calls.
