Sindhupalchok, Oct 11 : The death toll in the Sindhupalchok bus plunge has climbed to 12, police said.
More than 50 other passengers were injured when a Kathmandu-bound passenger bus with registration number Ba 2 Kha 2715 belonging to Helambu Yatayat on Friday skidded off the road and fell around 200 meters at Badahare of Bhotsipa in Indrawati rural municipality-12, Sindhupalchok.
The death toll may rise as details of the accident are still awaited, said the police. Overcrowded bus and bad condition of the road are blamed for the accident, according to police preliminary investigations.
More than 70 passengers were onboard the ill-fated bus, some of them were travelling on its rooftop, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhav Prasad Kafle.
Five of the deceased have been identified as Kedarnath Mahaju of Kavre, Sangita Purkoti of Panchkhal municipality in Kavre, Hira Shrestha and Binod Lamsal, both of Indrawati-9 and Ritesh Acharya of Indrawati-10.
