Kathmandu, Nov. 24: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the government is committed to ensuring prompt reconstruction of the physical infrastructures which were damaged by the recent rain-induced disasters in Bajhang district of Sudurpaschim Province.
PM Deuba expressed the commitment in a meeting held at Baluwatar with the office-bearers of all local levels of the Bajhang district on Tuesday.
He said, “I had visited the disaster-affected areas in Bajhang to take note of the damages caused by floods and landslides. Also, we are in conversation with the World Bank for the immediate reconstruction of the damaged roads and bridges.”
He added that preparations were being made to immediately deploy a team of technicians to inspect the damages and ascertain the capital needed for the reconstruction.
PM Deuba further informed that the government was preparing to declare Bajhang and other few districts as disaster-hit areas.
The delegation including chiefs of 12 local levels under the leadership of coordinator of District Coordination Committee Khadga Bahadur Khadka had submitted a memorandum to the PM for the reconstruction.
A total of 31 fatalities were reported and 11 people were injured in the floods and landslides of October 18 and 19.
PM Deuba, who had himself visited the affected areas, said that it was essential to reconstruct the Jaya Prithvi Bahadur Singh Highway immediately.
The memorandum has mentioned that around 500 families were displaced by the disaster in Bajhang.
