Constitutional council meeting at 5:00 pm, Cabinet meeting at 6:00 pm today

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Dec. 17: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called the meeting of the constitutional council for 5:00 pm today.

Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, Chairman of the National Assembly, informed that the the council's meeting was called for today evening at the PM's residence, Baluwatar. 

However, Shreedhar Neupane, press expert to Speaker of House of Representatives Agni Sapkota said that no official information of the meeting had been received. "We got to know that the meeting has been called from media. We have not received any official invitation," said Neupane.

The council comprises of six members including the PM, leader of the main opposition party, Chief Justice, HoR speaker and deputy speaker and Chairman of National Assembly. According to the constitution, five members must be present in order to reach the quorum for the meeting.

However, according to the ordinance issued by President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Tuesday on the recommendation of the government, quorum would be reached if three members including the PM as the CC chairman will be present in the meeting.

However, as the internal disputes within the ruling Nepal Communist Party hyped after the issuance of the ordinance, the agreement was reached in the Standing Committee meeting of the party held on Wednesday to withdraw the ordinance.

Meanwhile, the regular meeting of Council of Ministers has also been called for 6:00 pm today informed Surya Thapa, press advisor to the PM.
