By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Jun. 6: Supreme Court Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana has formed a constitutional bench to hear the writ petitions concerning the dissolution of the House of Representatives.
The newly formed constitutional bench comprises Chief Justice Rana and justices Deepak Kumar Karki, Meera Khadka, Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, and Dr. Aananda Mohan Bhattarai.
After the law practitioners had raised concerns on the appointment of justices in the constitutional bench, CJ Rana reformed the bench on a seniority basis after holding discussions with the officials of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
Even though justices Hari Krishna Karki and Bishwambher Prasad Shrestha were supposed to be appointed to the constitutional bench on a seniority basis, as Karki had already served as Attorney General to defendant Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli he had decided to not hear petitions on HoR dissolution and as Shrestha is currently unwell, Khatiwada and Bhattarai were included in the bench.
