Kathmandu, Dec. 18: On Thursday, Kathmandu Valley recorded the lowest minimum temperature for this season. As the temperature plummeted to 2.3 degree Celsius, the denizens of the Valley felt severe cold in the early morning.
According to Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), the minimum temperature in the Valley dropped to 2.3 degree Celsius on Thursday morning.
Minimum temperature was 3 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. The temperature in the Valley has been falling regularly for the past few days, according to Meteorologist Manju Basi.
She said that it was natural to feel severe cold in the morning as the clouds did not cover the sky on Wednesday night, and that the maximum temperature would remain at 17-19 degrees Celsius in the afternoon for some days.
Similarly, thick fog and mist have prevailed in most parts of the Terai as well as some parts of the hills since Thursday morning.
Senior citizens and children in the Terai districts are facing problems after the cold wave alongside the fog started blanketing the region.
According to meteorologists, the possibility of sunshine in the Terai belt till noon is slim.
The Department has also called for vigilance while travelling due to lack of visibility caused by fog and mist.
Jumla's meteorological station on Thursday recorded the lowest minimum temperature with minus 7 degree Celsius, lower than any other stations. Likewise, Jiri and Jomsom recorded minus 1.5 and minus 1 degree Celsius respectively.
