Biratnagar,Nov 1 : The coalition of main opposition parties in Province 1 has proposed CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Rajendra Rai as the candidate for the new Chief Minister.
A meeting of the coalition parties held on Sunday decided to nominate leader Rai as the CM of Province 1.

Prior to this, after Nepali Congress (NC) demanded to run the government in turns, the meeting of the provincial assembly scheduled for October 24 was postponed for 15 days.
Speaker Pradeep Kumar Bhandari had prepared to collect votes on the proposal of vote of confidence presented by CM Bhim Acharya on October 24. However, the meeting was postponed after the main opposition NC and ruling government CPN-UML demanded to postpone the meeting.

The NC, NCP (Maoist Centre), NCP (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajwadi Party, and Unified Democratic National Forum decided to propose Rai as the CM a day prior to the floor test by CM Acharya.
Informing that the opposition coalition had agreed to make Rai the candidate for CM, Chief Whip of NC parliamentary party Kedar Karki said that the proposal of NC to run the government in turn was just an internal subject matter.
The opposition coalition had decided to form the government in Province 1 under the leadership of NCP (Unified Socialist) from the centre itself.
