By Lucky Chaudhary, Kathmandu, Feb 10: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has requested the Commission for the Investigation and Abuse of Authority (CIAA) to impartially investigate into the cases of corruption.

Addressing a programme organised on the occasion of 30th anniversary of CIAA, President Bhandari said that all citizens played an important role in controlling corruption. “If corruption cannot be controlled effectively, the sources and instruments of the nation will be misused which thereby affects the nation’s system.”

Stating that it was necessary for the government and the general public to have zero tolerance towards corruption, President Bhandari said that impartiality should be the main principle of the commission while investigating into cases of corruption.

She further urged CIAA to effectively enforce the strategies framed by the government against corruption.

Speaking at the programme, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said that it would be easier to combat corruption if all the authorities of the government worked in cooperation. “As everyone is equal before the law, those involved in a felony like corruption will be punished strictly,” he said.

Stating that initiating a case of corruption against innocent person would have an adverse effect in the society, the Prime Minister requested CIAA to stay alert regarding it. “If the commission file cases impartially by carrying out deep investigation, the public’s confidence towards the commission will increase,” said Prime Minister Oli, adding, “There is no such place where the commission has not reached. This should be used as deterrence against those who commit corruption.”

The Prime Minister further went on to add that the works done by the commission was praise-worthy. “It is vital to control corruption in order to ensure a healthy development process,” he added.

Moreover, Chief Commissioner Prem Rai said that, “Culprits who encroach the public lands thereby causing loss to the nation will be brought under the purview of law.”
