Kathmandu, June 30: Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi has said that China has always respected sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nepal.
In an interview with The Rising Nepal, Ambassador Yanqi said the issue of Kalapani involved Nepal and India. And China’s position on this issue has not changed.
“China hopes that the two countries will resolve their differences properly through friendly consultations,” she said.
Referring to the media report regarding Nepal-China boundary and encroachment of Nepali territory, ambassador Yanqi said that China and Nepal signed the Boundary Treaty in 1961 and the boundary had been demarcated without any dispute.
“Over the years, both the countries have a good cooperation in matters such as boundary and dry ports,” she said, adding that during the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Nepal last year, the two sides signed an Agreement on the Boundary Management System.
Both sides are strengthening cooperation on boundary affairs to avoid interference from outside and promote common development, she added.
Commenting over the accusation that Nepal raised the recent border issue with India at the behest of China, Ambassador Yanqi said “Any so-called ‘Nepal at the behest of China’ accusation is baseless and comes with ulterior motives.”
Such accusations are not only insult on independent Nepal and the consensus of the Nepali people, but also are directed at disrupting China-Nepal relations, she said.
