Brig. General Rana, two others dismissed from service

Kathmandu, Aug. 17: Nepali Army Headquarters (NAHQ) Sunday dismissed two senior army officers, including Brigadier General Prayog Jung Bahadur Rana, a Colonel and a Subedar Major, from service after they were found guilty in an investigation relating to financial irregularities.
A summary general military court under Judge Advocate General’s Department of Nepali Army Headquarters that sat on Sunday took the decision to this effect after undergoing stages of hearings, according to a press statement issued by Directorate of Public Relations and Information (DPR&I).
The department is currently led by Maj. General Ratna Prakash Thapa, who is a two-star general.
The military court announced the verdict against one-star general Rana, Colonel Nabin Silwal and Subedar Major Mitthu Ram Bishwakarma.
They were taken to army’s detention centre on May 21 after being charged for financial irregularities found at the United Nations accredited Birendra Peace Operations Training Centre in Kavre.
Similarly, the court took action against Second Lieutenant Laxmikanta Khanal, warrant officer first class Bhoj Bahadur Bista, and warrant officer second class Binod Basnet. They were all demoted by one level, according to the verdict.
The court has, however, given clean cheat to warrant officer first class (account section) Nabaraj Pandey (Rtd.) and Colonel Rajendra Mani Giri. Likewise, second lieutenant (technical) Firoj Maharjan and warrant officer second class Bhadra Bahadur Shahi have faced departmental action.
According to the Army Headquarters, they were found guilty while they were all deputed at Birendra Peace Operations Training Centres (BPOTC), Panchkhal in Kavre district.
