Manma, Nov 11 : Construction of a concrete bridge over the Karnali river at Naraharinath Rural Municipality-1 in Kalikot district linking Hilsa in Humla district has been completed after nine years.
The bridge was supposed to be completed within one year after construction agreements in 2067 BS. But negligence of the contractor and other various reasons are blamed for the delay. Kankai Nepal Pragati JV won around 140 million contracts to construct the bridge. The bridge will come into operation within one month, said the contracting company operator, Dipak Mainali. "All construction work has been completed," he said.
Without a bridge, people in the locality have to cross the river through a risky means of ferry. They also transport vehicles across the river through this means.
With the construction of the bridge under the Karnali corridor, easier transportation will be available to people of five villages of Kakikot and Bajura districts each and people of Mugu and Humla districts, said Raskot Municipality Mayor Kashi Chandra Baral.
