Kathmandu, Jan 8 : Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has intensified works on removing the advertising materials including billboards, focusing on five areas frequently commuted by VIPs.
Such materials which have spoiled the beauty of the city are being removed at Baneshwar, areas around Tribhuvan International Airport, Koteshwar, Tripureshwar and Jamal-Lainchaur by mobilizing teams.
In this connection, KMC pulled down 198 big and small hoarding boards on Tuesday alone.
KMC Police Division Chief Dhanapati Sapkota said they are concentrating on removing such advertisements from the main areas of the city as various organisations are found to install hoarding boards and advertisements mostly at these places. KMC has also collected Rs 200,000 in fines so far from organisations and firms installing hoarding boards and advertisements haphazardly.
Similarly, on Monday KMC removed 17 unauthorized boards and displays installed above shops and house walls from airport neighbourhood, 50 such materials from Bagdurbar to Jamal Honda Show Room, 25 from Jamal top Lainchaur and 11 from Teku Bridge to Kalimati.
According to Sapkota, the process has been begun for removing the advertisement materials like hoarding boards, posters and pamphlets pasted and kept at various places as per the plan of building a clean, tidy and beautiful city. KMC has removed eight large billboards at Teenkune, Miatighar, Teku and Bishnumati Bridge.
KMC Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya has directed the Division Chief to remove without any delay the advertisement materials like hoarding boards kept in such manner as to make the cityscape untidy, citing it was KMC's responsibility to protect Kathmandu's uniqueness.
