Narayangadh, Aug. 10: With no case of COVID-19 related deaths, the Bharatpur Hospital in Chitwan has been fully successful in treating the virus patients until now.
Dr. Bhojraj Adhikari, chairman of the hospital, said that the hospital was providing adequate and effective treatment even to those patients who are in critical condition.
"Not only to those suffering from deadly disease like cancer, even those with dysfunctional kidneys won the battle against COVID-19," said Dr. Adhikari.
Of the 126 infected people in Chitwan, 100 were admitted to Bharatpur Hospital for treatment and 91 have already been discharged after recovering from the infection.
Currently, only six virus patients are receiving treatment in the hospital.
A 74-year-old elderly, suffering from fourth stage of cancer, also recovered from virus infection. He was also admitted to Bharatpur Hospital.
The elderly, a resident of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-6, said that he was able to defeat the virus with the help of doctors and health workers. "We had provided treatment to him under the direct supervision of Dr. Guru Charan Sah, cancer specialist of BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital," said Dr. Adhikari.
Likewise, a youth whose both kidneys were damaged, was also admitted to the hospital after he was found infected with the virus. He received treatment for COVID-19 in the hospital along with regular dialysis of the kidney. He has already been discharged after recovering from the virus infection.
"His dialysis was done in the isolation ward itself, in line with the standards set by the World Health Organisation (WHO)," said Dr. Adhikari.
Dr. Adhikari said that the hospital had bought RO machine to especially perform the dialysis of the COVID-19 patient.
A level-three Corona Hospital is needed for the treatment of virus patients with serious medical condition. However, Bharatpur Hospital, whose services are equal to level-three hospital, has not received this status yet.
Two big medical colleges of Chitwan have not received level-three treatment facility. The increasing cases of COVID-19 also highlight the importance of novel coronavirus dedicated hospitals.
The level-three facility is being provided only at TU Teaching Hospital of Kathmandu, BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan and Kohalpur Medical College, Nepalgunj. These hospitals have competent doctors, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and ventilator services.
Bharatpur Hospital, despite lacking level-three treatment facilities, has been providing equivalent services, said Dr. Adhikari.
Dr. Shreeram Tiwari, medical superintendent of Bharatpur Hospital, said that the treatment provided to the virus patients was effective as the 'A' block of the hospital had been made an isolation centre and regular consultations and services from expert doctors were provided to the COVID-19 infected persons.
"Be it provided by the government or by social organisations, the hospital never faced shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other medical equipment," said Dr. Adhikari. "This enabled us to provide proper treatment to the infected people."
