Kathmandu, Dec. 10: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that targeting democracy and social goodwill thereby creating instability in society in the name of criticism is not tolerable at all.
Issuing a message on the occasion of World Human Rights Day on Thursday, Prime Minister Oli said, "As respecting others' rights while exercising one's own right is the primary principle of human rights, works such as causing despair, desperation and frustration amongst the civilians are not acceptable at any cost."
"As an inseparable organ of democracy, the government will always welcome constructive criticism from the opposition party, media, and civil societies," said the Prime Minister. "Recommendations, remarks, and criticisms made by the public guide the government to improve its functions."
He added that the government would always respect the citizens' right to make the government chosen by them accountable.
Stating that the conducts such as taking lives, destructing the property and foundations of the nation and other inhumane activities to fulfill one's political interests are never acceptable, the Prime Minister said that such acts would be considered as a criminal offence against human rights.
Prime Minister Oli has also highlighted that the government had been providing social security allowances to the senior citizens, poor, disabled, or helpless women and children.
Stating that both health and education were at the utmost priority of the government, the government had effectively addressed the problems and needs of the street children.
"Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic has posed a challenge to exercising human rights by the citizens," said the Prime Minister adding, "To ensure everyone's access to free basic health services and emergency health services, the government has introduced various programmes like 'One local level, one health institution' and free health services for senior citizens among others."
Prime Minister Oli also said that the government was striving to ensure that all people would receive vaccine against COVID-19 as soon as possible.
He also clarified that the government had accepted all the international human rights set forth by human rights conventions and treaties as fundamental rights of people by incorporating them in the Constitution.
