Kathmandu, May 30 : Nepali Army has refuted two separate news commentaries published in separate Indian media.
Issuing a press note on Thursday late night, the Nepali Army Headquarters said its serious attention was drawn to the misleading media reports. “The commentaries were nothing other than a lengthy write up, woven with lies and innuendos,” it said.
Indian writer Shishir Gupta on May 27 in The Hindustan Times had published his write-up with a headline 'In a huge setback to PM Oli, Nepal's new political map hits a roadblock,' and Akshay Narayan published a commentary at tfipost.com on May 28 with a headline ‘Oli ordered Nepal Chief of Army to rebut Indian Army Chief's remarks, the Nepalese General said, 'No thanks'. The NA had strongly refuted both the commentaries.
"Nepali Army does function well within the parameters of the
Constitution and maintains its glorious tradition of discipline, restrain and accountability and respect to the highest executive office in the country. Nepali Army maintains that making unnecessary political statements or responding to the loaded queries from the media is not part of its job," the statement of the Nepali Army Headquarters read.
Nepal's institutional ties with any of its counterpart anywhere in the world is guided by well-considered need of the time, reciprocity and not at the cost of the country's independence, sovereignty and the glorious values it stands for, the statement read.
"Nepali Army regrets the reckless, mischievous and irresponsible write-ups and its contents with scant respect to the truth and facts, to say the least," according to the statement.
The NA has urged the readers, Nepali people in general and the media in particular, not to give any credence to the contents of the Hindustan Times and tfipost.com. The Headquarters said the separate commentaries had intended to undermine the Nepali Army as an institution and its constitutional obligation.
"We have Ministry of Defense and the Public Relations Directorate for disseminating authentic information as and when required," the statement read.
