Kathmandu, Dec 1 : Nepal has received additional 725,000 doses of Covishield, the AstraZeneca type vaccine manufactured by the Serum institute of India, from the COVAX facility.
It is a part of the 6 million doses of the vaccine committed to be provided through the COVAX facility supported by the United Nations.
“We have received 725,550 doses of Covishield from COVAX facility,” said Upendra Dhungana, chief of Logistic Management Section under the Department of Health Services. The second consignment of the vaccine with 972,000 doses will arrive soon, added Dhungana.
245 new cases, 256 recovered
The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Tuesday confirmed 255 new cases of COVID-19. Of them, 245 were detected through PCR tests and 10 through antigen tests.
The nationwide COVID-19 tally through PCR method reached 821,366 and that through antigen tests reached 95,498. Of the total 6,469 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, 4,329 were Real-Time Polymerase Chain Re-action (RT-PCR) while 2,140 were antigen tests, informed the MoHP.
The active caseload reached 6,931 on Tuesday. Of the active cases, 342 patients are admitted to various health facilities while the remaining 6,589 are in home isolation.
As per the latest update, 116 COVID-19 patients are admitted to the Intensive Care Units (ICUs) while 33 are under treatment with ventilator support throughout the nation. Meanwhile, 256 COVID-19 patients recovered from the infection during that period.
Nepal has now recorded 802,909 cases of recovery. The country also reported two deaths related to the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 11,526. The recovery rate of COVID-19 has reached 97.7 per cent and death rate is 1.4 per cent as of today.
