Hetauda, May 26: About 60 per cent of the work has been completed in the much-talked-about Parewabhir section of the road connecting Malekhu of Dhading with Manahari Bazaar of Makwanpur.
Chairman of Raksirang Rural Municipality Raj Kumar Malla claimed that the physical progress in the Parewabhir section of Raksirang Rural Municipality-4 is guaranteed to save the pedestrians from having to die falling off cliff in the rainy season.
A strong concrete wall has been constructed at the base of Parewabhir with a length of 420 metres and a height of 7 metres.
Engineer Sharmila Poudel informed that the depth (foundation) of the concrete wall with rods is 3.5 metres.
She said that the height will be 7 metres when the wall is fully ready.
Rural Municipality chairman Malla said that they were preparing to operate the road by filling the wall with gravel this year.
"It may not be possible to operate a motor vehicle this rainy season, but no one should have to die falling off Parewabhir," he said.
Earlier, it was reported that the pedestrians of Parewabhir used to die every year when the river overflowed from the cliff.
Efforts made by the local government to solve this problem are becoming successful as a road with strong foundation is being built at an investment of Rs. 20 million.
After the provincial government shrugged off the request for project, the municipality raised the budget on its own to build the road. The municipality managed Rs. 20 million and additional Rs. 20 million through the Ministry of Finance.
A detailed project report was made public at a total cost of Rs. 66.1 million for the construction of road.
Yubaraj Acharya, chief administrative officer of the Rural Municipality, said that the contractor company has signed a contract worth Rs. 41.1 million for the work including construction of 420 metres of strong wall.
Contractor Lama Baniya JV assured to hand over the road within the current fiscal year as it has expedited the construction work of the project.
The distance from Manahari Bazaar to Malekhu is only 52 km via Manahari-Chainpur-Botwari-Parewabhir.
Although the track has been opened in most places, this section of the road has not come into operation due to non-opening of new tracks at Parewabhir and the adjoining roundabouts.
With the completion of Parewabhir section, an easy road will be constructed for connecting Kailash Municipality with East-West Highway after completing Parewabhir section, said Tanka Bahadur Moktan, chairman of Kailash Rural Municipality.
He said that it would also contribute to the regional development of West Makwanpur.
