Kathmandu, Mar. 28: The Election Commission has finalised 17.73 million voters across the country for the local level election slated for May 13.
Issuing a press statement on Sunday, the Election Commission (EC) Nepal informed that 17,733,723 voters, including 87, 41,530 females, 89, 92, 010 males and 183 others will be eligible to cast their votes in the election.
Shaligram Sharma Paudel, spokesperson for the EC, said that each Nepali citizen who visited the Office of Election in the district to register their names were included in the final voter list. “The citizens who will cross the age of 18 years on May 12 this year are included in the final list of the voters,” he said.
The EC also designated 21, 955 voting centres and 10, 756 booths across the country,” read the statement.
Morang, Jhapa and Kathmandu have the highest number of voters with 715, 223 voters in Morang, 6,46, 234 in Jhapa and 6,37, 775 in Kathmandu while Manang, Mustang and Dolpa have the lowest number of voters at 6,496, 10,485 and 22,440 respectively.
According to the EC, Kathmandu, Pokhara and Bharatpur Metropolitan Cities have the largest number of voters and Narmabhumi, Chame and Chharka Tangsong rural municipalities have the lowest number of voters. While Narmabhumi Rural Municipality has only 448 voters, Kathmandu Metropolitan City has 300,242 voters, Pokhara Metropolitan City 207, 712 and Bharatpur 185, 752.
Similarly, the EC approved 820 voting centers in Morang, 759 voting centers in Kathmandu and 755 in Jhapa district. Only 28 voting centers were approved in Manang, 38 in Mustang and 49 in Rukum East. Among the seven provinces, Madhesh Province has the highest number of voting centers at 4,189 while Karnali Province has only 1,385 voting centers.
