Kathmandu, Aug. 21: Metropolitan Police Office of the Kathmandu Valley Thursday put 1,170 people on hold for defying the restriction order implemented in the Valley from today for a week.
Among them, 437 people were put on hold in Kathmandu, 498 in Lalitpur and 235 in Bhaktapur, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sushil Kumar Yadav at Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari.
SSP Yadav said the arrested locals were released later after putting them on hold for two hours. People detained temporarily on the spot were suggested to abide by the government order.
Similarly, a total of 1,103 vehicles were impounded for defying the restriction order imposed in the Valley, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) and spokesperson at Metropolitan Traffic Police Division Bamdev Gautam.
SP Gautam said that they have not charged any fine but are keeping their vehicles on hold for more than two hours on the spot. Among the total impounded vehicles, the Division has put 821 two wheelers on hold and 282 four wheelers as of 4:00 pm on Thursday.
“As a first day of the restriction order, we haven’t fined any vehicle today, but from tomorrow, we may do so by charging them Rs. 500 per vehicle,” he said.
All the impounded vehicles will be released Thursday evening, he said.
