Kathmandu, Nov. 9: A 100-hour relay live art demonstration has kicked off here from Sunday.
Minister Gurung inaugurated the demonstration being organised by the Nepal International Watercolour Society- Nepal Chapter at the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts on Sunday.
The event began with the face painting of Communication and Information Technology Minister Parbat Gurung.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Nepali artists have organised the 100- hour uninterrupted painting through virtual medium with the aim of setting a new world record.
Inaugurating the art demonstration, Minister Gurung said that Nepali art has introduced Nepal to the world. He also said that he was ready to coordinate for all kinds of assistance from the government for the development of Nepali art and culture.
Chancellor of the Academy Kanchha Kumar Karmacharya painted the face of Minister Gurung at the beginning of the event.
Lalkaji Lama, a scholar at the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, said that the live art workshop, which was being organised with the help of technology, was an exemplary programme that could be carried out in a situation where the people could not gather when the world was plagued by the COVID-19.
NB Gurung, president of the society, said that 73 artists from across the country would create watercolour paintings at their own time at a live art workshop held for the first time in the field of Nepali art amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Secretary of the Society and president of the Nepal Fine Arts Journalists Society Keshav Raj Khanal expressed happiness over the participation of the Minister for Information and Communication in the event and providing time to paint his portrait even though the art sector was considered neglected by the state.
He also urged the artists to showcase their talents by understanding the dignity of the programme.
On the first day of the programme, Chancellor Karmacharya and other artists, including Ramesh Shrestha, Saroj Khatri and Buddhi
Gurung created live paintings from their places.
The live art workshop will continue for four days, four nights and four hours from Sunday.
