Kathmandu, April 17: Senior litterateur Shyam Das Baishnav passed away at his residence in Gyaneswar, Kathmandu last night.
Regarded as the most favourite disciple of Mahakabi Laxmi Prasad Devkota, Baishnav has seven literary creations to his credit including poems and plays. He was decorated with the Gorkha Dakshin Bahu, Mahendra Pragya prize, Trimurti, Devkota Satabdi, Bhanubhakta prizes.
Born on Saun 5, 1981 BS, the 97-year-old Baishnav was suffering from mental illness for the past six years. He was cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat yesterday itself.
He is survived by his wife, three sons and four daughters.
Meanwhile, the Nai publications has expressed sorrow over the demise of Baishnav and paid heartfelt tributes.
