By Our Correspondent, Jaleshwor, Feb. 9: The Mahabiri Flag Festival has begun in Sirsiya, Matihani Municipality – 1, Mahottari from Sunday.
The five-day festival was inaugurated by Mahantha Thakur, member of the presidium of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJP-N) and representative from Mahottari constituency 3.
Minister of State for Social Development of State 2 Abhiram Sharma, Mayor of Matihani Municipality Hari Prasad Mandal and the locals of the areas were also present at the inauguration ceremony.
The festival features a 51-foot-tall flag, design as a symbol of Lord Mahabir, the twenty-fourth Tirthankar in Jainism.
Speaking at the inauguration, Thakur stressed the need to follow the right path and carry on development hand in hand.
Sharma praised the programme for promoting religious tolerance and emphasised the need to include all the castes, ethnicities and social groups in such events.
