Kathmandu, Aug. 28: The Central Department of Nepal Bhasa of Tribhuvan University (TU) has started MPhil PhD programme in humanities and sociology in Nepal Bhasa (Newari language) from this academic session.
The department has introduced the course in Nepal Bhasa with the view to understand Newa language and culture. So far 15 students have enrolled in the new programme.
The first semester covers subjects like linguistics, history of Nepal Bhasa and literature, Newa society and culture and Newa economic and politics, the department informed.
Similarly, the second session covers Newa: Science, cultural studies, foundation for research philosophy, research design and academic writing.
The course was introduced on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of the department's commencement of postgraduate studies in Newa language.
Head of Central Department of Nepal Bhasa Prof. Dr. Omkareshwor Shrestha said that in the last 41 years, 543 students have applied for postgraduate studies in Nepal Bhasa and 300 of them passed the level.
Head of Patan Multiple Campus Dr. Laxman Kunwar said they were giving continuity to the classes despite various challenges to conducting educational programmes in campus.
