By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, June 26: A committee of the artists of the Nepali entertainment industry formed to raise funds for the flood-affected people of Sindhupalchowk district collected over Rs. 2.2 million in a single day on Thursday.
The committee of the actors was formed last week under the coordination of senior actor Krishna Malla to help the flood-affected people of Sindhupalchowk.
A meeting of the ‘Sindhu Support Fund’ held in Kathmandu on Thursday decided to support the flood-affected people in various ways. More than two dozen artists have announced their support individually or institutionally and other artists showed their readiness to contribute to the fund.
The announced amount will be deposited directly in the bank account, said Malla.
The artists have also appealed to people at the home and abroad for more help. The money is deposited in the bank will be used to construct temporary housings for the flood victims of Panchpokhari, Helambu and Melamchi, Malla said.
The secretariat of the Sindhu Support Fund is preparing to hold another meeting on Saturday to make further plans, according to Malla. Karishma Manandhar is the deputy coordinator of the committee. The Fund has been impressively collecting the money from the artists and the people from home and abroad to assist the flood victims.
