By sanjya Kumar Mishra, Gaur, Aug. 29: Risk of flooding has exacerbated in Rautahat district as the water level in rivers such as the Bagmati, Lalbakaiya and Jhanjha stream has risen due to the incessant rainfall for the last few days.

Paddy fields in municipalities such as Gaur, Ishnath, Rajdevi, and rural municipalities such as Durga Bhagabati and Yamunamai have already been inundated due to the incessant rainfall.

Arun Kumar Shah, chairman of Durga Bhagawati Rural Municipality, said Bhalohiya, Pipara Badharwa, Pachrukhi are in inundation due to a rise in water levels in the Bagmati and Jhanjhan rivers caused by the ongoing rainfall.

He said farmers were worried as hundreds of Bighas of paddy fields have got submerged in rainwater.

Similarly, rise in water level in the Lalbakaiya river has led to inundation in Banjraha, Auraiya of Ishnath Municipality, according to a local Bishwanath Sah.

Indra Dev Yadav, chief district officer, said that security forces were kept stand by for rescue and pre-emptive steps against the possible flooding and associated risks.
