Baitadi, May 17: A total of 65,529 people, who had been infected with the novel coronavirus in the second wave of the pandemic, have recovered from the infection in Sudurpaschim Province.
Currently, there are 29,208 active cases of COVID-19 in the province and 333 people have succumbed to the infection.
Dr. Gunraj Awasthi, director at the Sudurpaschim Health Directorate, said that 199,272 RT-PCR tests had been conducted until now.
"As the virus cases have been resurging daily, the hospitals have been overflowed with patients. Currently, we are in need of around 1,900 oxygen cylinders daily," said Dr. Awasthi, adding that only 500 cylinders were available in Sudurpaschim.
The virus has spread to all nine districts in the province.
Kailali district has the highest number of active cases, followed by Kanchanpur and Baitadi, informed the provincial health directorate.
As Kailali, Kanchanpur and Baitadi share an open border with India, the new variant of the virus has been spreading rapidly, the health experts said.
Meanwhile, Baitadi District Hospital said that due to the lack of oxygen, they were compelled to refer the patients to other hospitals.
