By Chandani Hamal, Kathmandu, July 21:  Many rivers across the nation have crossed the danger mark and many are in the verge of crossing the danger level due to the incessant rainfall for a couple of days, thereby water-logging the settlements near river banks.

High risk of danger has been apprehended in the Gandaki River at Nawalparsi Triveni.

Sunil Pokharel, hydrology expert at flood forecasting division, said, “The water level in the Narayani River has already crossed the danger mark and the risk of the river overflowing the Gandak Dam has increased due to torrential rainfall.”

This morning, due to increasing flow of water in Eastern Rapti, the water level in the River had increased by three feet thereby touching the bridge, he added.

Likewise, the water flow in eastern side of the Rapti, which flows through Sauraha, Chitwan, has increased drastically, leading to increase in water level in the Narayani River.

Meanwhile, Riyu water stream has also crossed the level of danger. With the mixture of flood from many small and big rivers in Triveni, risk of overflowing the dam has been intensified, said Pokhrel.

“The areas near Gandak dam used to be inundated by flooding in the Narayani River itself. After the water current increased massively from Eastern Rapti, risk of the areas nearby being waterlogged has increased,” added Pokharel.

Pokharel said that 12 villages in the Susta area, in Nepal’s side, were at high risk of flood.
