Parsa records 98 more cases of COVID-19

By Deepak Prasad Gautam, Birgunj, Aug. 17: According to the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test report, which came out late on Sunday night, 98 persons were found with the virus infection in Parsa.

Of the 98 new cases of virus infection, 41 were detected in Birgunj Metropolitan City (BMC), 33 in Pokhariya Municipality, Sakhuwa Prasauni Rural Municipality and 15 in Jagarnathpur Rural Municipality.

Likewise, the SARS-CoV-2 infection was seen in two Armed Police Force (APF) officials deployed in Birgunj Customs Office, Mayor of Pokhariya Municipality, ward chair, doctors, health workers, and a journalist, said Jayamod Thakur, the health inspector at the Parsa District Health Office.

As many as 27 persons including doctors and 11 females were found with the virus infection in swab samples collected from BMC Trijudh Secondary School on August 11. Likewise, 11 persons were found to have contracted the virus in swab samples collected from BMC-11, Shripur on August 10.

In Jagarnathpur Rural Municipality, 15 persons including five health workers and health coordinator of the Rural Municipality have tested COVID-19 positive.

The virus infection was also detected in Mayor of Pokhariya Municipality, ward chair of Pokhariya-4, medical superintendent, three doctors and two nurses of Pokhariya Hospital and a journalist.

According to Salma Khatun, deputy mayor of the Municipality, of the 33 infected, seven family members of the infected mayor, his personal assistant, and driver were also found COVID-19 positive.

Deputy Mayor Khatun informed that their 34 swab samples were collected n August 10 of which only one person tested negative for the virus.

Likewise, the ward chair of Sakhuwa Prasauni Rural Municipality-6 and four health workers had contracted the virus, informed Rajesh Rauniyar, health coordinator of the Rural Municipality.
