London, May 28 : One more former British Gurkha soldier has died of COVID-19 in Britain, taking the total number of Nepalis who passed away due to this global pandemic here to 65. With this, 54 ex-British Gurkha soldiers have succumbed to coronavirus.
Jitendra Rai, 61, who has been living in Graze, Britain is the latest victim. He died under treatment at a hospital on Tuesday, said one of his relatives, Balu Rai. Originally from Khotang district in Nepal, he had migrated to Udayapur district. Jitendra had been living in Britain for long.
The Basildon Hospital had suggested him to stay at home quarantine after he showed symptoms of coronavirus. He was taken to hospital on an ambulance five weeks back after his health worsened even after staying at home for 14 days. Jitendra was kept in the intensive care unit at the hospital for one month five days.
His three sons are in Britain while his wife is in Nepal.
