Kathmandu, June 25 : Lawmakers have demanded the government that it immediately took step to stop the attack and misbehavior against health workers who are working untiringly in the forefront of crisis.
Speaking in the special hour of the National Assembly meeting today, safety and security of health workers need to be guaranteed.
Janata Samajbadi Party's Mrigendra Kumar Singh reminded that health workers were attacked in Kathmandu, Dharan, Parsa, Rautahat, Doti and Bajura. At such crises, such health resources must not be disheartened. According to him, nationality should be taken into consideration while taking decision on citizenship.
Ruling NCP's Chakra Prasad Snehi urged the government to ensure proper security to the doctor and nurses mobilized in the treatment of COVID-19 patients. He also demanded proper address on the negative impact of COVID-19 on national economy.
Similarly, same party lawmaker Dr Bimala Poudel stressed that specific programmes need to be announced to revive industries. Commercialization of education and service sector must end, she added.
Nepali Congress' Anita Devkota condemned the police intimidation on dalit rights defenders while they were heading to Prime Minister's residence Baluwatar. The rights defenders were going to Baluwatar to submit a memorandum on violence occurred in different places including Soti carnage and murder in Rupandehi and Dhanusha districts. In the police intimidation, even the lawmakers were baton-charged by the police persons.
Same party leader Tara Devi Bhatta wondered why the government failed to intensify control and prevention of COVID-19. A serious initiative was required to control exploitation of resources in Chure region, according to her.
Pramila Kumar of Janata Samajbadi Party expressed severe concern over the provision of seven years' waiting period to get naturalized citizenship. There must not be discrimination on conferring citizenship to every woman and sexual minorities.
The NA will meet next on June 29.
