By Amrit Prasad Poudel, Myagdi, Sept 17: Cases of dengue and scrub typhus are increasing across the districts of Gandaki State with the highest number of cases in Myagdi district.
According to the Gandaki State Health Directorate, there are 105 dengue patients and 54 scrub typhus patients in the state. Out of them, 64 dengue and 43 scrub typhus cases are in Myagdi alone.
Other than the two districts across the Himalayas, Manang and Mustang, the cases of dengue and scrub typhus have been diagnosed in nine other districts of Gandaki State.
Myagdi is followed by Kaski with 20 dengue cases, Lamjung with 10 cases, Syangja with four and Nawalparasi with three. Similarly, six cases of scrub typhus were diagnosed in Baglung, three in Nawalparasi and two in Kaski.
“Dengue and scrub typhus both are fatal diseases if not diagnosed and treated in time. Their diagnosis is easy so is the treatment due to which we request the people with symptoms such as fever and headache to have their health checked up,” said Dr. Nabaraj Bastakoti of Beni Hospital in Myagdi.
Meanwhile, the authorities have also begun to take preventive measures to control the spread of dengue and scrub typhus.
“The local levels have been directed to find and destroy the habitats of mosquitoes and keep their environment clean,” said Ek Narayan Lamsal, chief at Myagdi health office.
