Dhangadhi, June 26 : The meeting of the Sudurpaschim State Assembly has been adjourned today due to obstruction by the opposition parties, the Nepali Congress and Rastriya Janata Party.
The State Assembly Speaker Arjun Bahadur Thapa gave permission to one of the members from the opposition party to speak after members from the opposition parties stood up from their seats soon after the outset of the meeting and obstructed it.
After this, Krishna Bahadur Chaudhary of the Rastriya Janata Party accused the province government of becoming a failure in all fronts including the prevention of coronavirus pandemic, management of treatment of the COVID-19 infected persons, management of quarantines and others. He also charged the province government of corruption in allocation of development projects and demanded that it inform the State Assembly of the true details of the expenses of Rs 930 million said to have been made in the management of coronavirus prevention and treatment. He also called for expanding the reach of PCR tests.
Speaker Thapa said the attention of the Assembly was drawn by the views coming from the opposition legislator and urged the opposition lawmakers to take their seats as it was necessary for the Assembly to continue its business even for the government to respond to the questions raised by the opposition.
The Speaker informed that the meeting has been adjourned after the opposition legislators did not heed to his request and continued to protest standing in front of their seats.
The State Assembly has not been able to start deliberation on the policy and programmes and the budget for the fiscal year 2020/21 due to the continuous obstruction of the Assembly by opposition parties. The Assembly was also obstructed on June 24 before this.
The agenda of the meeting today was to start discussions on the policy and programmes and the budget brought by the government.
