Kathmandu, Apr. 26: The torchbearer of the communist movement in Nepal and former Prime Minister Man Mohan Adhikari’s 22nd Memorial Day has been observed on Monday.
Tributes were paid to the CPN (UML)’s then chairperson and first democratically elected communist prime minister to mark the Memorial Day.
Former Prime Minister Adhikari had passed away on this day in 1999. Although there was no formal event organized on this day due to the high risk of COVID-19, Deputy Prime Minister and chairperson of the Man Mohan Foundation Ishwar Pokhrel garlanded the statue of late Adhikari established at Foundation’s office at Sanepa in Lalitpur.
On the occasion, DPM Pokhrel reminisced the ideals, values and ideals, contributions of late Adhikari and said they were still relevant and were worthy of following.
Pokhrel lauded the important role Adhikari had played in unifying the communist movement in the country. He also wished that may this day provide energy to all the CPN (UML) leaders and cadres to stay united and remain active in the party activities.
