Martadi, July 30 : Local residents have become fearful with the rise in water level in the rivers and rivulets following the incessant rainfall.
Some parts of the district are at high risk of floods and landslides so fear is looming large among the locals due to torrential rain.
Swamikartik rural municiplaity-4 ward chair Kashiram Kaila informed water level and current have increased in the Karnali River which lies in the east-north belt. He further informed the Piluchaur suspension bridge linking Jagannath and Swamikartik rural municipalities has been at stake due to rise in the river level.
Likewise, Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP) of the District Police Office Prasad Bhattarai shared that the vulnerable community people have been cautioned to adopt safety measures with the rise in the water level.
The recent elevation in the water level has put half a dozen local bridges at risk. Bridges linking Mugu and Bajura at Wai Bandhu, Gotri Sappata and Rugin are getting deteriorated due to erosion caused by the flood-fed rivers and rivulets, shared chairperson of Himali rural municipality Govinda Malla.
The increasing water level in the Karnali River has posed threat to the human settlement on its banks in Bajura, Humla, Kalikot, Achham and Surkhet districts.
