By Siraj Khan, Nepalgunj, May 17: Tension has surfaced in Banke, following death of a youth quarantined in Narainapur Rural Municipality of the district. He had returned to Nepal from Mumbai, India on May 13.

The locals have been protesting that the youth lost his life due to lack of timely treatment.

"The 25-year old youth staying at Dipendra Secondary School's quarantine in Narainapur Rural Municipality-5 died on Sunday morning due to health complications," informed Krishna Chandra Maurya, Ward Chair of Nairanapur-5.

"Others staying at quarantine said that the youth had fainted after continuous vomiting and he died as he was not taken to the hospital for treatment on time," he said.

Swab sample of the deceased was collected on Saturday as he had come in direct contact with eight COVID-19 patients found in Narainapur two days ago.

"The PCR test report of the youth is yet to come," informed District Health Office, Banke.

A stressful situation was created in Narainapur after the locals started protesting that the youth had died due to negligence of the concerned authorities.

"The deceased had fallen sick from Saturday afternoon. The locals have been alleging us for not being able to take the youth to Nepalgunj for further treatment on time," said ward chair Maurya.

Although we called the local ambulance, it denied to come to the quarantine due to lack of PPE, said the locals.

Istiyak Ahmed Sah, Chairman of Narainapur Rural Municipality, said that Army force was called from district headquarters to take the situation under control.

"I have asked the Chief District Officer (CDO) to send additional army force to not let the situation go out of control here," said chairman Sah. "The PCR test report of the deceased will be out in a few hours and further steps will be taken accordingly."

After eight persons who had returned from Mumbai tested positive for virus in Narainapur, 263 swab samples of people who had been in contact with the COVID-19 patients were collected on Saturday.
