By TRN Online, Kathmandu, May 15: Concerning the farmers who have been bearing losses in agricultural sector, the government has come up with a policy to determine floor price of agricultural products.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari, while unveiling the policy and programmes for FY 2020/21, said that the government has decided to set 'minimum price' so that the farmers won't have to bear loss in the minimum investment cost.

President Bhandari said that the government would develop intensive farming system in the upcoming FY.

"The campaign of using national products will reach to everyone through local levels," said Bhandari.

The government has incorporated collective farming system wherein products are gathered into one sphere for processing and management of export of agricultural products in the plans and policies for FY 2020/21.

President Bhandari said that the Prime Minister Agriculture Modernisation Project would be made more effective.

The agricultural industries would be expanded to a larger scale on the basis of nation's need and potential.

Subsidy will be provided for production, processing and selling of agricultural products, said the President.

The farming system would be developed on the basis of nature of soil, she said.

She also said that 'Forest for Prosperity' programme would be initiated to connect agriculture with forest.

Production of traditional crops will also be emphasised by attracting unemployed youths and foreign returnees towards it, she added.

Facility for cold storage of agricultural products will also be developed by construction of the roadways, the President said.

She added that the government would promote agriculture in government-owned lands as well.

Likewise, terrace and backyard farming would be promoted in city areas, she said.
