Downpour causes flooding, inundation in Sarlahi

By Janarjan Khatri, Sarlahi, July 20: Problem of inundation has erupted across Sarlahi district following a heavy rainfall on Monday afternoon. Although it was raining lightly since Sunday, the three-hour long downpour on Monday afternoon caused widespread waterlogging.

Entire Bhadsar village in the district headquarters, Malangwa, has been submerged. Rain water has flown into government offices and private houses situated in the town area of the district headquarters due to the lack of proper drainage.

Deputy Inspector of Police (DSP) in Sarlahi district, Madan Kunwar, who reached the inundated village of Bhadsar, said that the police vehicle could not move beyond Bhadsar due to heavy inundation in the area and that most houses there were submerged. Compared to northern area of the district, southern part has suffered greater problem of inundation.

Mohan Bahadur GC, Chief District Officer, said problem of inundation started after the heavy rainfall at day time today.

Flooding has occurred along the East-West highway in areas like Lalbandi, Nawalpur and Hariban. Some entrepreneurs in Lalbandi has been affected as the floods in the highway entered into their shops. Dozers have been used to dig outlet for the flood water at Lalbandi market area and Bastipur.

Rivers and Streams flowing through the district such as the Bagmati, Lakhandehi, Fuljor, Kalinjor, Banke, Manusmara, Jhim have been swollen due to the heavy rainfall.
