By Narendra Dhakal, Gorkha, Sept.6; An elderly, 75, who died while receiving treatment at the Gorkha Hospital has been confirmed of having COVID-19.
According to the Gorkha District Hospital, the septuagenarian who passed away at 4:30 PM on Saturday, tested positive for COVID-19 in the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) report of her swabs.
An old women, who was from Gorkha Municipality-7, Dharapani, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Gorkha hospital at 12:20 PM on Saturday after she fainted unexpectedly.
Three members of her family also tested positive for the virus.
The swab sample of the elderly was collected for PCR testing on Saturday.
Nabin Thapa, medical superintendent of the hospital, informed that the PCR report of the septuagenarian that came on Sunday revealed that she was infected with the SARS-CoV-2.
Krishna Dhakal, Communication Officer at the hospital, said, "Swabs of all the doctors and other medical health workers involved in the treatment of the elderly were sent for the PCR testing.”
They are living under quarantine as the PCR report is awaited, he added.
Meanwhile, the ICU where the septuagenarian who tested positive for virus was under treatment was closed for some time after her death.
The Gorkha Hospital has informed that the ICU is now opened after the disinfecting the area.
