Banke's 41 COVID-19 patients discharged after recovery, isolation centers being vacant

By Siraj Khan/ Govinda Sharma, Nepalgunj, June 19: As many as 41 COVID-19 patients of the same ward have recovered from the virus infection in Banke on Friday.

41 COVID-19 patients of Janaki Rural Municipality-1 were discharged from isolation center after recovering from the SARS-CoV-2 infection, informed Naresh Shrestha, Corona Focal Person of Banke District Health Office.

They were receiving treatment in isolation center set up at Jogagaun Secondary School in the same Rural Municipality.

Shrestha said that they were discharged after due completion of all testing standards prescribed by the government. “As per the standards set by the government, the patients were discharged in 16th day of treatment, after recovering from the virus,” he said.

According to Shrestha, out of 327 COVID-19 patients identified in the districts, two had succumbed to the virus and 250 had recovered.

Now, only 75 COVID-19 patients are receiving treatment in Banke.

With increasing rates of recovery, the isolation centers of the districts are also being emptied. Currently, only 2,000 people are placed in quarantine.

Ram Bahadur Kurumwang, Chief District Officer of Banke, said that the number of people returning home from India had also been declining.

“On Thursday, only 398 people from India had entered Nepal via Nepalgunj border point,” said Kurumwang. “Until a week ago, 1,500 to 2,000 people used to enter Nepal via Nepalgunj border point.”
