By Belina Thapa, Lamjung, July 14: At least 146 families have been displaced due to floods and landslides triggered by the incessant rainfall since Sunday in the district.
Some 574 people of 146 households have been affected after the swollen streams and rivers flooded the settlements in some places while in other places landslides falling down from above the settlements caused damages to the houses.
407 people of 109 families residing in Madhya Nepal Municipality alone have been displaced, according the Krishna Prasad Sharma, Chief District Officer (CDO) of the district.
Similarly, 167 people of 37 families residing in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality, Dordi Rural Municipality, Kbholasonthar Rural Municipality and Beshi Shahar Municipality have been displaced. Some have got their houses submerged while some others have their houses damaged, according to the locals. Some households have been under high risk of landslides.
Ganda Bahadur Thapa, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the Lamjung District Police Office, said that Madhya Nepal has been the worst hit area in the district.
119 people of 31 households of Ranipani, ward no. 6 of Madhya Nepal Municipality, 111 people of 27 households of Lamsoti of the same ward, 35 people of 11 households of Bhadaure of the same ward, 85 people of 21 households of Ratamate at ward no. 9, 24 people of 54 households of Suryapal of ward no. 3, 20 people of 3 households of Parajulitar of ward no. 3, 3 persons of a household of Khardi of ward no. 4, 9 people of 4 households of Gumbabesi of ward 6 and 6 persons of a household of Khawasgaun of ward no. 1 have been displaced and they are taking shelter at the local school buildings or their relatives.
Ramesh Kumar Pandey, Chief of the Madhya Nepal Municipality, said that people whose houses have been inundated or damaged due to flooding and landslides have been transferred to safer places. Those who did not want to stay in the local schools have opted for staying in their relatives'.
Bishnu Bhakta Paudel, chair of ward no. 6, said that ward no. 6 was the worst hit by the rain-induced disaster in the municipality. An entire village has been transferred after a landslide falling from above put the village at a high risk, according to him.
