By Muna Hamal, Surkhet, Aug. 12: As many as 23 more persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Karnali Province on Wednesday.
With this, COVID-19 case count in the province has reached 2,034.
According to Health Service Division under the Provincial Ministry for Social Development, 19 persons of Surkhet were found infected with the virus in the PCR test carried out at the provincial hospital and avian disease research laboratory and 4 persons from Dailekh tested positive for the virus in the PCR test carried out at Dailekh hospital.
Meanwhile, three persons have recovered from the virus and returned home on Wednesday. With this, number of people who have recovered from the virus in the province has reached 1,894.
Chetan Nidhi Wagle, chief of Surkhet District Health Office, viewed that risk of infection of COVID-19 was high in Surkhet and there was also risk of community transmission as five of the 19 newly infected people have no travel history and they were not detected in the course of contact tracing nor they were staying in the quarantine.
