Kathmandu, Sept. 27: Community schools are always blamed for mismanagement and not operating at par with private schools, but a community school here has set a new example by conducting online classes and examinations amid the COVID-19 crisis.
At a time when many community schools are just initiating for students' enrolment and alternative classes, Viswa Niketan Secondary School, Tripureshwar, Kathmandu has started the first terminal examination. The Vishwa Niketan School has started the examinations of their students from Tuesday which has been conducted in virtual mode.
Heramba Raj Kandel, headmaster of the school, informed that about 70 per cent students from grade one to grade ten were present for online examinations. According to Kandel, students who don't have access to internet will get assignment for examination from phone-in. Besides that, many students are visiting school daily for the classes.
Kandel claimed the school is the first community school which already started the first terminal examinations.
Kandel said it is possible to teach students from alternative modes if teachers have interest and idea. The school is noted as model community school of the country. More than 3,000 students from grade one to grade 12 are studying there. Every class has several sections and grade 11 and 12 have 19 sections each, Kandel informed.
