Kathmandu, Nov. 12: Over 12,000 security personnel of Nepal Police, Nepali Army and the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal deployed in the frontline against the battle of coronavirus pandemic have been found infected with the virus so far.
Information officers at the concerned security bodies said on Wednesday that 12,700 security personnel have tested positive for the coronavirus as of November 10.
Among the three security bodies, Nepal Police has the highest number of infected personnel followed by the Nepali Army.
So far, 6,578 personnel of Nepal Police have been infected with the COVID-19 and 5,734 have recovered.
Currently 230 infected personnel are in the police headquarters and 206 in the Kathmandu Valley-based police offices.
The number of infected personnel is declining in other States, according to Senior Superintendent of Police and spokesperson of Nepal Police Headquarters (SSP) Kuber Kadayat.
He said currently 844 active cases are in the police organisation.
The Nepali Army has 4,326 infected personnel and 3,108 of them have been discharged after recovery. Two army personnel died of coronavirus infection.
There are 1,216 active cases of the virus in the army, according to the Directorate of Public Relations and Information (DPR&I) of the Army Headquarters.
Similarly, 1,796 members of the Armed Police Force tested positive for the coronavirus. Out of which 1,592 have already been discharged, according to Deputy Inspector General and spokesperson Raju Aryal.
