Kathmandu, Feb. 7: Kamala Kumari Parajuli, Chair of National Women Commission (NWC), has said that the commission has been doing its best to address the cases of violence related to women and provide justice to the victims.
Speaking at an interaction programme on Friday organised by the NWC on the occasion of annual conference after election of its new office bearers, Parajuli said that several programmes were organised in 45 districts of seven provinces.
The school level orientation programme has reached 16 schools and a total of 1,220 students and teachers are expected to benefit from the programme within a year, she said.
She added, “We are unable to reach many women victims to give them justice but we feel proud to see the success among the registered cases.”
During the months of January/February, 294 cases were registered by such victims in-person at the commission and all have been dealt with case by case, and that is despite the insufficient budget as well as manpower, she added.
A total of 1,570 cases, including 1,352 cases of domestic violence and 218 of violence against women, were registered at the NWC during the Fiscal Year of 2020/21, a report said.
The highest number of cases was registered from Bagmati Province, with 559 cases of domestic violence and 59 cases of violence against women. Meanwhile, Lumbini, Karnali and Far-western provinces registered the lowest number of cases.
In all, 18 programmes were organised in seven provinces under the 16-day campaign against gender violence.
