Kathmandu, Nov.12: The Charge d'Affaires of Japan to Nepal, Yoshioka Yuzo, signed a grant contract with Matrika Prasad Devkota, Executive Director of KOSHISH, for building a Mental Health Therapeutic Centre at Pharping in Kathmandu District.
The project is funded under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) of the Japanese Government and involves a grant of USD 296,856 (approximately Rs. 35.36 million).
The project aims to enhance therapeutic services for the abandoned women with mental health and psychosocial disabilities by constructing a mental health therapeutic centre to provide treatment in a safe environment, according to a press statement of the Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu.
At the online grant signing ceremony, Yoshioka said he hoped the assistance would contribute to enhancing better therapeutic services for women suffering from mental health issues.
KOSHISH is a non-governmental organisation that has been working since 2008 to ensure persons with psychological disabilities are able to live independently with dignity, and are included in the community as equals.
It has been running a transit home for women to support their recovery from mental illnesses.
