Kathmandu, Mar. 8: The integration of the Nepal Police, which was postponed after the government dissolved the House of Representatives and declared elections, is set to move ahead again.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) is taking the lead to further the integration process of Nepal Police into the provinces.
Spokesperson and Joint Secretary at the Home Ministry Chakra Bahadur Budha said, "The police integration campaign, which was stalled for a while, is now moving ahead.
The ministry has started preparations in this regard."
In November last year, the government approved the police organisation and management survey report, paving the way for integration.
The Ministry was preparing to begin the integration work by collecting the details from January, 2021.

Chairman of adjustment committee transferred

The Ministry had formed a committee under the chairmanship of Joint Secretary Thaneshwor Gautam for police integration.
Gautam has already been transferred to be the Chief District Officer of Kaski. Now a new Joint Secretary will be leading the adjustment committee.
According to a source from the Ministry, technical preparations have been completed. Adjustment software machine has been developed and installed, and some procedures have already reached the final stage of integration.
According to the Police Integration Act, ranks from police up to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) will be integrated in the Province.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and spokesperson of Nepal Police Headquarters Basanta Bahadur Kunwar said that all the police officers up to the DSPs will apply and the decision of adjustment will be made through the software.
Adjustment will be decided on the basis of seniority, the provinces where they have been working for at least a year, their permanent address, citizenship address and age limit.

Province-wise adjustment number

The government had already confirmed the number to be integrated in the Provinces and total forces to remain at the Centre or under the Police Headquarters. Nepal Police in the Centre will have a force of 24,816 and 54,720 in seven Provinces.
There are 10,717 police posts in Province 1 and 9,152 in Province 2. Likewise, Bagmati Province has 7,304 police posts; Gandaki 6,745; Lumbini 9,443; Karnali, 5,458 and Sudurpaschim 5,901.
There will be one DIG and three SSPs in each Province. The Province police chief will be commanded by the DIG.
There are two SSPs in the Province police office and one in the Province training centre. Accordingly, seven provinces will have seven DIGs, 21 SSPs, 69 SPs, 181 DSPs and 732 inspectors.
Similarly, in each province 2,257 Sub-inspectors 5274 ASIs, 10,611 constables, 32,818 privates, and 1,916 office assistants will be integrated.
The Police Headquarters had already established newly recruited posts of 834 police personnel in different provinces.

Proposal to raise ration allowance by 33 per cent

The Ministry of Home Affairs has recommended the Ministry of Finance to increase the ration allowance for the police by 33 per cent immediately based on the recommendation of the Ration Allowance Review Committee, according to Home Ministry spokesperson Budha. Police ration has not been adjusted for the last six years, informed SSP Kunwar.
From next fiscal year onwards, Nepal Rastra Bank has recommended to give ration allowance in accordance with the price hike of the respective district.
