By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Aug. 23: Domestic flights from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) have been affected due to poor visibility attributed to the incessant rainfall since last night.
Keshav Bhattarai, an officer at the TIA terminal duty office, informed that domestic flights were affected owing to poor visibility caused by bad weather combined with rainfall since early Monday morning.
He said for the landing of the plane visibility of 5 kilometers is needed but there is only 4 km visibility since the morning.
A plane flown to Bharatpur this morning had to return owing to bad weather, he said.
Bhattarai said although there was no problem for planes with IFR (instrument flight rules), those using VFR (visibility flight rules) are having problems due to poor visibility. A plane with an IFR system for landing and take-off needs only visibility of 1600 meters.
A total of 199 domestic flights, 99 for landing and 100 for taking-off from Kathmandu, were given permission for Monday. Similarly, 12 international flights were to land while 11 were to take off from TIA for international destinations.
Bhattarai said that although bad weather would delay the flights there was little possibility for cancelation of the flights for Monday.
