Humla/Kavre, Dec. 27: Local governments alongside helping hands have started providing warm clothes to those in need so they can live through the biting cold.
In the recent days, cold has increased throughout the country. Those in Terai are suffering from cold waves while heavy snowfall has affected the lives in Himalayas.
Social worker Jangasur Shahi informed that jackets and sleeping bags were distributed to 50 needy individuals – women, senior citizens, those with physical disabilities and in poor economic condition – at Ward No. 7 of Simkot Rural Municipality.
Likewise, Shahi also provided jackets, trousers and school bags to 50 other students in the area. The clothes were offered by Pokhara-based Lama Raijen Treks and Expedition.
This year, the company has provided similar support in 30 districts already.
“Several people with poor economic condition struggle to live through the winter season. Support of warm clothes will help the individuals to a great extent,” said Krishna Bahadur Shahi, caretaking chairman of Ward No. 7.
Likewise, Ward No. 7 of Panauti Municipality also provided warm clothes to 60 elderlies of different teams singing devotional songs in local temples.
“The elderlies arrive at temples in night and sing devotional songs. The winter is being harsh due to which we provided them with warm clothes as a small support,” said Purushottam Karmacharya, ward member of Ward No. 7.
The elderlies were provided with jackets and caps. In the next few days, Madhav jatra starts and it is celebrated for a month in Panauti. The elderlies are active in singing devotional songs throughout the celebration.
The warm clothes are expected to help the elderlies continue their dedication successfully.
Several such supports are being provided in different corners of the country to the needy individuals.
