Kathmandu, May 20: Rotarians of Italy have gifted a container-load of disinfectants to Nepal government through Rotary Club of Patan.
According to a statement issued by the Rotary Club of Patan, disinfectant materials worth Rs. 56 lakhs were handed over to the government. They will be used at hospitals and health facilities across the country.
President of the Rotary Club of Patan, Nirmal K. Pradhanang handed over the container to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).
The disinfectants contain 400,000 packets of the sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) concentrate, which is commonly known as ‘bleach’ and is used to disinfect water and surfaces. Besides, it can be used to produce 135,000 liters of bleach. It also includes leaflets in English, with guidelines on how to dilute the powder in solution, the statement reads.
“This disinfectant will be very helpful in preventing disease transmission,” said Dr. Gunaraj Lohani, chief of the policy, planning and monitoring division at the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), said.
The disinfectants were provided by Corrado Barani, owner of the chemicals manufacturing company, Barchemicals, and former president of Rotary Club of Vignola, Castelfranco E. Bazzano.
The shipping cost was borne by Rotarians in Italy with the support of Stefano Tibaldi, the current President of the RC Vignola, Adriano Maestri the district governor and Alberto Azzolini the Rotary Foundation sub-committee chair of District 2072 in Italy.
“Despite the difficult moment in which we live, the longstanding friendship and collaboration between the Italian Rotary Clubs and the Rotary Club of Patan have made this important venture possible,” said Barani.
