Kathmandu, Mar. 18: Preparation for erecting the wooden chariots of Bhairavnath and Bhadrakali for Biska:Jatra (Bisket Jatra) of Bhaktapur has begun.
The three-storey and 35 feet tall Bhairavnath chariot will be designed in pagoda shape following the traditional method.
The two chariot processions will start on the premises of the five-storied Nyatapole temple.
The Guthi Sansthan of Bhaktapur has brought some fresh timber to construct the chariots, said Aanada Karmacharya, chief of Guthi Office of Bhaktapur.
Karmacharya said that the construction of the two chariots would conclude on April 7.
Old and new timber is being used to build the chariots. However, some fresh timber brought last year would also be used this year to build the chariots, he said.
The nine-day festival will kick off on April 10 by pulling the chariots of the deities Bhairavnath and Bhadrakali.
The Guthi Sansthan has allocated Rs. 2 million for the week-long festival.
During the festival, the chariots are taken to several parts of the Bhaktpaur.
